A lot of other patients I met in Somerset had been in other treatments before (Renfrew, Belmont, etc) and all agree that Somerset works better with insurance...a definite plus. My insurance was technically out-of-network for Somerset hospital, but like I said, they covered 90% (the in-network level). I never had to talk to the insurance company....they did it all. Also the fact that other patients had been in treatment before and ended up at somerset may speak about the success rates of other programs...hopefully somerset helped.
The staff was absolutely amazing. The nurses, therapists, and psych techs were always there if you needed someone to talk to. The nutritionists could be kind of annoying, but I think it depended on who you had. Groups were good and the meal structure was fine. The program was small enough that you really got to know everyone, which was nice.
I think the program can really help someone who is willing to get help and get better, but the only downside is that they are more focused on brief treatment. The average stay is only 2 weeks (unless you have significant weight to gain). I think I didn't get more from the program because part of me felt rushed...like I needed to mentally be there longer, though physically I was fine.
My stay at SMC was my first inpatient stay for my eating disorder. I was there for about 2 and 1/2 weeks. My insurance covered 90% of the actual stay (not including the doctor's bill, but still not that bad). I transitioned to IOP afterwards where I just had to pay a 10 dollar co-pay a day.
